After seeing something on-line about using a scanner to make far away galaxies. Brent (my 5 yr. old) and I gave it a try. Here is our second attempt using a little cream, food coloring, a clear bowl, some rock salt and paprika. We were able to make our first planet with an asteroid belt (which is also edible!). We followed this up with an episode of the original Star Trek.

Winter is Hanging On
Here it is a week into spring and we are still having 8 degree mornings… Took a stroll along the rail trail near the Shaker Bridge and took these shots of the ice formations along the rocks where the trail cuts through the hill. The Mascoma Lake still looks like a frozen desert. I need to stay positive, warm weather will be here soon.

Ice Castles-Stratton, VT
Took the kids to the Ice Castles in Stratton, VT. We decided to go to Stratton instead of Lincoln, NH because I thought it would be a nicer drive. This is the first time we visited one of the ice castles. About 12 years ago we went to an ice hotel in Canada (click here for photos). Ice Castles are mostly made from spraying water with sprinklers. I believe the ice hotels are made more from using“ice blocks”. Overall, a really good time. Seeing the sled dogs at the end of the day was a real bonus.
