Dragonflies at the Quarry

A short hike from Mount Support  Road can get you to a very unique spot that is great for exploring. An old abandoned quarry that looks like the stone was never used. The trail starts on the top of Dartmouth Ave. There are two trails either Bruce Lee (more challenging) or Get Yer Goat. Both will take you to the top. Get Yer Goat intersects with the old access Road for a quicker accent, but very steep and technical. I would recommend taking Get Yer Goat to Quarry Direct, then come back down Bruce Lee. There are some great rock formations along the way, especially along the old access Road and Bruce Lee. Once at the top, let the exploring begin…but be careful.

Bellows Falls in HDR-Trip #2

I have been itching to get back down to Bellows Falls because I know I have only seen the tip of the iceberg (photography wise). The kids and I spent most of the day there. First we climbed Fall Mtn. for a perfect view of the city. We then ventured down to the river to talk to the fisherman just below the dam. They have been catching walleye, pike, and rainbow trout. We then ventured across the river to Bellow Falls and checked out the old mill buildings and bridges. We met a family who grew up in Walpole, but now live in Connecticut. He told me stories of climbing along the river below the bridge when he was a kid. Overall a great day exploring and of course taking pictures. Most of these shots are in HDR taken with multiple exposures and tripod. Enjoy!

Looking For Spring

Yesterday My son and I took a walk in the woods looking for signs of Spring. Unfortunately, other than melting snow and a few buds on the trees, we did not find any. Here is a panorama shot of him taking on a big tree with a little stick. Maybe next weekend.

Gile Mountain and The Shredd Shack

I took the kids up Gile Mountain in Norwich, Vt. This is a great little hike, but get there early. This is a popular hike for people visiting the Upper Valley. There were more plates in the parking lot from New Jersey than Vermont. The trail head is near the end of Lower Turnpike Road and the tower is .7 miles from the parking lot. There is even a mountain bike only trail. The Shredd Shack at the top is the old Ranger’s quarters. The tower is the tallest I have been on, so you cannot be afraid of heights.
